The body language is unmistakable, their faces say it all...as you watch Kim Kardashian argue with Kris Humphries in her car on Thursday night, you can almost hear the death knell sound.
Gone is the giddy excitement of a new union and in its place festers an illustration of the kind of bitter enmity you'd expect to have been fostered over years of resentment.
Yet, incredibly, this scene occurred after Kim, 31 , and Kris, 26 , had been married for just 68 days.
The evening had seen the couple, who married in a fairytale ceremony in Montecito, California on August 20, step out with the best of intentions.
Reality star Kim and NBA player Kris headed to Izakaya restaurant in Hollywood to indulge in Kim's favourite Japanese dishes.
But indicators that things were not right between the pair were already flashing wildly.
Kim, famed for her famous curves and fondness for figure-hugging dresses, was covered up in jeans, white shirt, long boots and navy fedora.
She had also donned a $1,930 lamb wool gilet by Jahaanara, which was hugely out of step with her usual style and again, covered her up to create what was almost a protective cocoon.
Kris dressed in a manner which too reflected his internal disquiet.
That they arrived in separate cars spoke volumes, but as the couple left their meal with solemn faces there was a glimmer of hope when Kris headed to Kim's Rolls-Royce Phantom.
But, fittingly, it was soon clear that they didn't have a ghost of a chance, as the atmosphere turned toxic inside the luxury sedan.
Kris can be seen arrogantly holding his chin up in the air as if to say, 'I'm not backing down over this one.'
But Kim responds with a angry hand gesture and a telling death stare.
Worse still, they don't seem to actually be talking that much but while the dialogue looks stilted, the anger is palpable
After the argument, they do share a kiss, but neither puts any heart into it.
