The 31-year-old will be the star witness in a court case as she seeks up to $20m damages
from clothing giant GAP.
Lawyers for
GAP have indicated they will call for the reality star to give evidence in her
lawsuit against them for illegally using her likeness in an advertising
campaign for their brand, Old Navy.
Defending her own honour: Kim Kardashian will appear in court to battle clothing giant GAP
Clothing
giant GAP have begun an investigation to see just how much the Kardashian name
has been tarnished following the public backlash over her 'staged' 72 day
wedding, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
They will
be questioning clothing retailer Bebe to find out why they dropped its
Kardashian line and also finding out if her popularity has waned.
They will
also be examining Kardashian's singing and acting ability so they can draw
comparison to the look-a-like actress they used in an advertising campaign.
Guess the look-a-like: Which is Kim and which is Melissa?
The
investigation to be carried out by Los Angeles based lawyer Louis Petrich is in
response to a lawsuit the reality star filed against GAP.
Kardashian
is seeking up to $20m in damages by claiming the clothing retailer cashed in on
her fame by using Melissa Molinaro in an advert for the Old Navy brand.
She claims
GAP violated her rights to her name and likeness and wants share of the profits
they made from the sale of goods promoted in the advert.
Happy as a clam: The 31-year-old didn't seem bothered as she headed to a meeting in Santa Monica, CA today
But GAP
have contested the lawsuit and hope their investigation will show the public
did not believe Kardashian was involved in the advertising campaign.
According
to the Hollywood Reporter Petrich will be seeking financial records that show
how much Bebe and Sears earned by making deals with Kardashian.
He also
wants to find out why Bebe dropped Kardashian.
Looky-loo: Melissa Molinaro appears in Old Navy's advertisements
Capitalising on her fame: Kim thinks that Old Navy is taking advantage of her selling power
Legal
sources told the Hollywood Reporter that one line of action being considered is
to show that Kardashian is 'libel-proof' with a reputation so tarnished that no
injury could cause her any damage.
Petrich,
who has a reputation as tough lawyer,is expected to spend the rest of the year
gathering the evidence in preparation for a jury trial in Los Angeles.
Kardashian
will be called as a witness as would her former boyfriend Reggie Bush who began
dating Molinaro after the commercial appeared.
